Things your mom taught you about success

Are you infectious?

People love to work with INFECTIOUS people.

INFECTIOUS people have high energy and a powerful commitment.

You do not need to be an extrovert to be INFECTIOUS.

But, you do need high energy and a powerful commitment.

To have high energy, you must be physically fit for endurance and stamina – and you must be able to monitor and direct your thoughts and your attitude. Face it, people like to work with attractive, positive people. Fit people are more attractive – they just are, no matter what you think about that. People who are strict with their thoughts and attitudes can pick JOY and positive attitudes (what else would you “pick”?).

Both of these things take a great deal of work and maintenance – education and relationship to reality (what’s REALLY happening, not your opinion about what’s happening).

Which is where the powerful commitment comes in.

The work isn’t easy, but if you do it…….success becomes that much easier!

I met an extraordinary man. His name is Jonny Imerman. He founded Imerman Angels – his organization connects a cancer survivor with a cancer patient who is the same age, gender, and has the same cancer that the other survived.

That’s all his organization does. If a person has cancer, they can go to Imerman Angels and be connected with someone who is their own age, their same gender, and has survived the exact same cancer that they have now.

It is an UNBELIEVABLY powerful program! Can you imagine having a buddy who has gone through the EXACT same stuff that you are now dealing with and can talk you through all of it – especially when you are scared out of your wits? If you’re a guy in your 20’s, you’re talking to a guy in HIS 20’s who survived your diagnosis. If you’re an older woman, you’re connected with an older woman. BRILLIANT!!!

He has a network of thousands of survivors across the world. He is completely sponsor supported and has never asked for money or a grant. He has a small staff and, from what I can tell, they are sustainable.

Know why?

Because he ONLY does ONE thing. He partners with American Cancer, Livestrong, and the others – so he can connect people to organizations that provide other services to cancer patients.

But, Imerman Angels ONLY DOES ONE THING! Connect cancer patients with cancer survivors and caregivers.  And he does it well.

Did you notice how I could tell the whole story in a very short period of time – and you can fully get it?

Kill Bill

Over the weekend, I watched Kill Bill vol 1 and vol 2:

Here’s what I noticed…..

Quentin Tarantino’s perfect amplification of his childhood love is PRESENT! He studied! I’m talking about Kung Fu (btw).

Are you willing to be an EXPERT? With that level of EXCELLENCE? Do you have ANY idea what that will take?

The second thing I noticed was …. “If you Live by the sword, you die by the sword” ….and if you don’t die by it, you have to deal with that you are a killer.

Choose your weapons and your mentors well.

The final thing I noticed is the PERFECTION OF THE CRAFT!!! Who do you follow? Are they worthy of your craft? Are you willing to be worthy of your craft?

BE worthy of the work of your life.

Don’t let the turkeys get you down!

You know how I hate warmed-over porridge?

Still sometimes the oldies ARE the goodies. Today I am lucky enough to have friends who remind me that SOMETIMES people won’t like the way I do things. SOMETIMES I may put some people off with my opinions and my attitudes – and even, yes even, my success!

It’s good to have friends who will remind you to NOT LET THE TURKEYS GET YOU DOWN!!! If you have people clucking along your path, you don’t need to make a Thanksgiving dinner out of them, but you don’t have to listen either.

YOU know your path. YOU know your heart. If you listen closely enough, you even know your HEART. Follow it.

As I’m watching the Oscars…. (yes, I am watching the “chick Super Bowl”).

I’m noticing Cameron Diaz. She really stands out…..and I’m thinking to myself….

It is no wonder that she is wildly successful. Her energy is so high, she looks like she takes great care of herself and she’s just having a BLAST!!!

Who will be your guide?

I heard a GREAT story from someone this weekend. Someone who is WILDLY successful, a CEO and a multi-, multi-millionaire.

You should get on the edge of your seat for this one….

He was telling the story of how he used to get a call from a stock broker nearly every day – working to get his business.

He would take the calls, listen to the pitch, sometimes he would say “yes” and sometimes “no”, but his investments never seemed to go anywhere. They would go up and they would go down, but they wouldn’t make any appreciable returns – mostly, the broker was getting the commission, and his money wasn’t going anywhere!

Then, one day, the light snapped on!!! That day when he got a call from the “Broker du Jour” (his words), he asked the question……”I’d like to hear more, but first……what’s your net worth?”

What do you think he heard from the other end of the line?

Yep. Silence.

And then, the Broker du Jour said,  “I don’t see how that’s any of your business.”


“Then”, he said, “we won’t be doing business together.”

How many times do we ask the professionals who we are paying to guide us to tell us about their own successes? Have they achieved success in this area themselves? Hmmmm….

No wonder my Business Degree left me wondering what I’d missed! My teachers were simply that, TEACHERS! They hadn’t run a business…….

The people who REALLY taught me…..were the ones who… guessed it…..had ALREADY done it themselves!

A fool and his money are soon parted. Hire professionals who know what they’re doing and can DEMONSTRATE that they have!

I just got finished reading a truly stellar book by T. Harv Eker – and in it he makes the case that if you do the easy things, life is hard. And if you do the hard things, life is easy!!!

Hmmmmm…….. a whole new look at the importance of keeping the laundry clean – ON TIME!! Or going to the gym, ON SCHEDULE!!!

A new take on “Do what you love”

I met this really successful guy today.

After a lot of discussion about what made him so successful, he said…..ask yourself, “Are you doing what you love?” It reminded me of my mom always saying “Do what you love and the money will follow.”

And then he added this magical twist….”Are you bringing what you love to what you are doing?”

WOW!!! When you really bring what you love to whatever you’re doing, you no longer have to be on the mad quest. It will all appear. I promise!
